Thank you very much ilnanny, I have been wanting to install Fedora 17 for some time now and finally got a chance to give it a go. It is running really well for me. :-)

for me fedora 17 is the fastest and most beautiful they've ever released.
I use Fedora since it was called redhat rc2.
I left fedora relase only in the first 4 to switch to debian, but then went back to using my favorite distribution.
(ps.uso also Archlinux on my netbook, I also like archlinux that is very fast and is the most configurable of any Linux distribution - should also try arch)

Sounds good ilnanny, I have been wanting to try Arch Linux but my technical skills are not as good as my art skills so I have not been successful with it yet. I was thinking of trying again here soon. Would I be able to ask you for help if I should need it while trying to install Arch?

you can ask when you want .....
my only problem is that I speak very bad English.
But qundo you can write a quick reference for you (of course when you have everything installed, you still need to read the Arch Wiki, which I think is the most comprehensive)
---
what brand of video card has, on your computer?
-
which desktop manager you like? (in arch ... you can install all of gnome, kdexfce, lxde, mate, cinnamon, awesome, etc, etc)-or you can just install window managers with slim (e17, openbox, blackbox, etc, etc) or maybe if you like to complicate your life (hehehehehehe) you can only use the command line or even the console xorg simple.
surely you can use arch, even on an Olivetti in 1987 (I did).
However, if you want to try a archlinu istaller chart, there are several projects that are very beautiful and quite fast:
Archbag (openbox) the longest running and stable, very elegant.
Chakra (Kde) great (if you like kde) course uses a bit more resources archbag.
Kaleos (gnome) nice and also very versatile because inside, there is already installed:
Yaourt (easy to install packages from AUR);
Extended Places Menu Extension (plugin that replicates the panel "Resources" for Gnome2);
Desura (a distribution platform like Steam games);
10 Firefox and Thunderbird;
Vlc.
and most importantly, kaleos, is the only derivative of arch, which has maintained the same repo, so you can remove gnome and kde installed, or any other de
-----
and other distributions derived from arch, which now can not remember.
---
sorry for my bad English.:D

Thank you very much for the info. My PC has Nvidia GTX260 Video card. I have a desktop so no Wifi to worry about. I do need to daul boot with Win 7 but my PC has 2 HD's. I would want to do pure Arch install so do not mind referring to the Arch Wiki. I will be trying this weekend so I will see how that goes. Is it hard to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in Arch?

absolutely not,
once you've installed the base system, after installing xorg:
# Pacman-S xf86-video-nvidia.
There is a beautiful script, (I never tried because I installed archlinux on the netbooks three years ago) called "AUI"
---
after installing the base system, just type:
# (Root)

pacman-Syu
pacman-S git
git clone git :/ / github.com / helmuthdu / AUI
cd AUI
. / AUI
---
Once started the script, just tell it what to install and confirm, at the end we will have to restart our Arch Linux installed and configured according to your preferences.
-----
(AUI - Ultimate Archlinux Install Script)
Archlinux Ultimate Install Script enables us once installed the base system:
update all packages of basic system
automatically configure rc.conf
install additional repositories (optional)
configure the mirror
create and configure a new user (and sudo)
install yaourt and / or packer
install Xorg
install the print server CUPS
install the proprietary driver / open source our graphics cards
install additional firmware for Wireless, bluetooth etc.
ensure access to GIT through a firewall
install the desktop environment [Cinnamon, E17, GNOME, KDE, LXDE, OpenBox, XFCE]
install Vim, Emacs, Eclipse, etc..
install applications [LibreOffice, Firefox, Google Chrome, jdownloader, Inkscape, GIMP, etc..]
installing codecs and fonts
install and configure LAMP Server and much more.
I hope I explained myself (my English is getting worse every day more hehhehheheehe)

Wow, thank you very much ilnanny and your english is perfect so no worries there. This will really help me this weekend when I install Arch, heck I may try it tonight. I will post back if I have any further questions. :-)
